Traveling is an expensive affair today. There are too many things that have to be taken into consideration while embarking on an unplanned vacation. For instance, transport, accommodation and other sundry expenses are just a few to name. It is for this reason that people opt for economical last minute travel packages nowadays. Last minute travel packages include various special offers by airlines, hotels, cruises and rental cars. These are basically discounted rates that prove to be profitable marketing strategy. The other most important benefit of last minute travel is that there is absolutely no need for reservations to be made in advance since these packages are available from 3 hours to as much as six weeks before the departure date.

Last minute travel can also be a very cheap option for travelers. Hotels and airlines are never fully booked and always maintain certain unreserved slots for “walk-ins.” There are also a number of people who cancel their reservations suddenly. Since airlines, hotels and cruise ships lose a considerable amount of money for these sudden vacant slots, it is more feasible for them to offer these slots at cheaper rates to sudden “show-ups” who in turn grab the discounted offers. Hence, travelers take advantage of cheap last minute travel that is available with online websites and travel agencies. These are well marketed too by the agencies. A good amount of research is always helpful in order to get the best deal since there are a number of special packages available to choose from.

Generally all the discounted rates of airfares, hotels, cruises and cars together form cheap special last minute travel packages. Travelers who are adventurous and budget minded generally go in for cheap last minute travel. It is catching up with the frequent traveler and rightly so.

The history of Prague is reflected in its hotels. The city dating back to the 9th Century, has been historically, and is today, a crossroads between ancient and modern worlds. It’s a city that has throughout its existence continually reinvented itself. As a result, Prague offers an array of historical hotels representing each of its bygone eras.

Historical Sites Reinvented Into Hotels
Many of Prague’s hotels were once historical sites that have been refurbished to meet the increasing needs of international travelers. For example, a 14th Century building, dating from the time of Bohemian King, Charles IV, is now the Iron Gate Hotel Prague.

Another example is the Castle Steps Hotel that is actually three separate 16th Century buildings that set at the foot of the ancient Hradcany Castle. Especially interesting is the Pension U svateho Jana (Hotel on the Saint Johns) that is a former monastery and a historical monument that is now the Waldstein Annexe Hotel.

These hotels have been renovated to meet current need, but reflect the rich history of the area. From the time of the original Bohemians throughout the history of Prussian, German and Soviet Union occupation to the current day, a reshaping is constantly taking place in Prague that points the way to a new era. Historical sites being reinvented into hotels, is one way where the old world meets the new.

Late Nineteenth Century and Early Twentieth Century Hotels
Built during a time of increased travel to Prague, a number of hotels from this era reflect the Art Nouveau architectural style, then popular throughout Europe. With the coming of a new century, the city had reinvented itself again into a worldlier destination.

All of Prague’s historical hotels of this time, although reserved for the elite, were a response to the needs of a more sophisticated European traveler that demanded great luxuries. Sadly, this era ended with the coming of Communist occupation from 1918 until 1989. Today, many of these hotels, have been renovated and restored to their original glory.

Costa Rica, the Rich Coast, was named by its earliest Spanish settlers in anticipation of the gold and treasure they would discover there. Instead, they found a greater treasure.

Costa Rica is a tiny gem of the country that is located in Central America between the countries of Nicaragua and Panama. Its total size is about the same as the States of New Hampshire and Vermont combined and its population is just over 4 million people. It has slowly been gaining a reputation as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the entire World. This reputation has been earned for a variety of reasons.

Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful countries in the World. Its tiny land mass is sandwiched between the Caribbean Sea on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. The result is over 800 miles of unspoiled beaches. The country is divided by a central highland that bisects the country like a stone backbone. The mountains are covered in many areas by lush tropical rain forests that contain one of the most diverse ecosystems anywhere. Costa Rica proudly claims the largest species density in the World and ecotourism has become a leading industry.

Costa Rica is one of the most peaceful countries in the World. It has no standing army. The army was abolished by the Constitution and Costa Rica has become a leader in the struggle for human rights and peaceful co-existence. This attitude is reflected in the daily life of the people of Costa Rica and the overall pace of the country. Its people revere a peaceful, joy filled life surrounded by friends and family. This attitude is reflected in the unofficial motto of the country, Pura Vida, or the Pure Life.

Costa Rica is one of the most progressive and stable countries in Latin America. It has a commitment to universal education and has encouraged technological development while retaining the devotion to Pura Vida in daily life. This has made it a popular choice for foreign investment.

Costa Rica is a country that seems almost too good to be really true. From its pristine beaches on two coasts to its five active volcanoes to the mind boggling diversity of its native flora and fauna, Costa Rica seems more a fantasy created in the mind of an artist than a real country located only a short air journey away from the United States.

Shore excursions are what separate one cruise for another. If you never got off the ship, it wouldn’t matter where you were.

That said, while a Hawaii vacation cruise offers something for everyone, not every shore excursion is suitable for every person. For example, my wife is not a strong swimmer so she immediately ruled out any of the scuba or snuba (a cross between scuba and snorkeling) activities.

One way to choose the excursions that are just right for you is to look at the amount of physical activity each requires. What follows is based on information provided by Norwegian Cruise Lines (http://www.ncl.com). I chose NCL because we were fortunate enough to take one of their cruises aboard the Pride of Hawaii this spring.

Norwegian divides their shore excursions into three activity levels.

Mild

“Tours with this symbol involve walking over relatively level terrain, possibly some cobblestone, gravel or a few steps. Comfortable shoes are recommended. If it’s a water activity, well, choice of shoes is up to you.”

One example would be the Atlantis submarine tour. You must be able to climb down (and back up) a short ladder to enter and leave the submarine. Once aboard, you’ll relax and look out the oversize port holes at the sandy bottom, coral reefs and abundant rainbow of tropical fish. On the Oahu submarine tour, we even saw the wreckage of a fighter plane laying on the bottom.

Moderate

“Tours with this symbol involve a considerable amount of physical activity such as substantial walking over uneven or cobblestone streets, climbing stairs or steep terrain. They are not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are recommended. (Unless, of course, you’re swimming.)”

A good example of this would be the ‘Tree Top Zipline Adventure’. Soar through the canopy of Kauai’s silent giants; a unique Norfolk pine forest towering upwards of 200 feet. Enjoy six different zipline runs entwined with seven aerial deck transfers, a 70-foot high suspension bridge and a 65-foot high dual rope crossing.

Here’s a tip. If this sounds like something you really want to do, book as early as possible. Zip line is one of the most popular shore excursions and sells out fast.

The summer is here and the travel bug is biting in full force. If you’re like many people, you want to travel, but your budget is, well, somewhat lacking. Never fear, you can still travel this summer. There are deals all over the place. Here are some ideas to help you transform your travel dream into a vacation reality.

Go Last Minute

Yep, you can save some serious money by waiting to the last minute to go. Most people plan ahead—and this is a good plan. However, if you’re caught in the middle, it might be best to go last minute.

There are some great Web sites out there that feature last minute airfare deals and some of those deals are spectacular.

Use Airline Miles—Barter for More

If you’ve got airline miles, use them. Don’t have enough airline miles to go anywhere fun? Try bartering for more. The Internet is full of wondrous Web sites and some of them allow you to barter for additional airline miles.

This tactic is really good if you’re just short of reaching your goal. I’d definitely recommend you take a gander at doing this.

It’s Train Time

When was the last time you were on a train? If you want to get out and see the country, literally, then going on a rail excursion might be just what the doctor ordered. Did you know that you can buy an unlimited train pass for North America?

It’s called the North America Rail Pass—nifty title—and it’s offered by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada. When you buy a pass, which runs $999 during the peak season, you get 30 consecutive days of rail fun. It’s unlimited. Go where you want, when you want.

There are over 28,000 miles and 900 destinations that this pass opens up to you. And there’s even a nice $100 discount for seniors, students and children.

Manzanillo is a city, as well as a municipality, in the state of Colima in Mexico on the Mexican Riviera. It is a coastal city on the Pacific side with the busiest port in Mexico. However, despite it’s commercial importance it has retained its tranquil laid-back Mexican charm. Manzanillo is readily accessible by land, air, and water, and is a growing tourist destination among foreigners and Mexicans alike. What is there for a tourist to do here? Lots. Just consider briefly the following:

Beaches
Manzanillo has many beaches to choose from for surfing, swimming, or simply admiring, beach such as Playa San Pedrito and Playa Audiencia.

Watersports
Surfing is very popular in Manzanillo, especially in Playa Miramar. Scuba diving is popular here also. Local boat tours will take to places difficult to get to but merit a visit. These tours also have stops for scuba diving.

Fishing
Manzanillo is a great place for sport fishing, with year-round excursions available. In fact, it is a self-proclaimed “sailfish capital of the world.” The city is also well known internationally for deep-sea fishing.

Timeshare resorts represent some of the nations best vacationing. For those of you who have not visited timeshare resorts or are not familiar with them, here is a basic guide. Timeshare is a resort owned by a group of people who want to use the property for their holidays, while splitting the costs of the property as well as share the maintenance costs. Usually professional staffs are given the charge to maintain the property. All co-sharers get to spend a number of days every year at a minimum or at times no cost at all.

For example, a time share in Branson, Missouri with an extensive ground for camping charges the members only one dollar per day. This includes facilities like electricity and sewer hookups, recreation facilities and use of community bath houses as well. The resort has shuffleboard, a game room, disc golf, tennis courts, walking and nature trails, bicycle rentals, bike paths, an indoor swimming pool, and an outdoor swimming pool, apart from two fishing ponds for kids. Owner members are provided discount tickets to musicals, specific restaurants, and even the IMAX theatre in the locality. Most of the time members can stay for 21 days at a stretch after which they must leave for seven days before coming back again. These rules help in an effective rotation among all members and misuse by a handful.

Some timeshares maintains joint usage agreements with different timeshares resorts all over the world, where one can exchange facilities. There are timeshares which are sold on the condition that the owner may choose to spend one week in every year depending on availability. There are others with such flexible arrangements too. At times owners can give their week of use to friends or family members, provided that the maintenance and fee structures intact.

What could be the reason for someone to buy a timeshare or use it? The owner of timeshare is a real owner of the property, and it is preferable to own rather than rent a property. Timeshare also offers a definite vacationing opportunity every year. In addition the number of different locales makes it a worthwhile deal.

The timeshare concept was introduced in the 1960s by a ski resort owner in France. Rather than renting a resort he proposed owning a set amount of time per year on a property. This concept became popular world wide, including the U.S where it is growing more popular by the day.

Rome is a favorite tourist destination all year round. This Eternal City offers a variety of experiences. Some visit this city as pilgrims who wish to have an audience with the Pope or visit the different churches and edifices.
