In a day and age when a good education is more important than ever, parents want their children to attend the best schools possible. If a private institution is out of the question, the highest-rated public school is the next best thing, but most people rarely talk about home schooling.

I’ve worked most of my life as a freelance writer and have had the opportunity to get to know many students that are home schooled and who have gone on to achieve great things in life. When I speak to their parents about home schooling, they tell me that they opted for that route for a number of reasons.

The first and most important is the curriculum. There are many well-respected home school courses of study available that provide as much or more education than many public schools do, and the classes students take are always available. In other words, they don’t have to worry about a course being filled up or canceled for lack of interest.

Another big boon I hear about home schooling is the lack of social problems students encounter. One lady told me her daughter was being bullied to the point that she felt obligated to remove her from school and have her home schooled, and said that now her daughter is flourishing.

There is definitely a trade-off in the sense that that there are not as many opportunities to interact with peers and develop the same level of social maturity as students who attend private and public schools do, but even that is changing.

I wrote a story a few years ago about a basketball team comprised entirely of players that were part of a home school association. They practiced, played games and traveled together with a group of like-minded young people in which no one is picked on or made to feel isolated.

There are other social activities that parents of home-schooled students can join that will allow their children to interact with their peers.

A good friend of mine recently told me that her son was facing some difficulties in the school to which he had just transferred and was practically begging her to be home schooled. She told me that she did not want to even talk about home schooling, because she, like so many others, feared her child wouldn’t receive the same level of education or social development that he would in a traditional school.

I don’t think that home school is necessarily for everyone, but I think that there are benefits, and I think if a parent feels that his or her child may do better in such an environment, it is important to at least talk about home schooling as a possible alternative.

As your children go from preschool to school age, their urge to ‘help’ is going to be stronger than ever. They are going to find just about anything you ask them to do exciting. Enjoy this while it lasts, as it won’t last much longer. They want to help, so give them something to do. Even after they stop wanting to help, they should be doing chores to contribute to the well being of the family. There are some jobs for kids that they can do easily to get them started. Later on, more complicated chores can then be assigned.

Some early jobs for kids, even kids as young as five, can be simple things that take just a few minutes but that will give them a sense of accomplishment. Anything longer than five minutes will be too much for them. Ask the to assist you with the laundry. They can carry clothes from the washer to the dryer, or the other way around. Just make sure they can handle what you hand them. They can also help you collect dirty clothes or do some simple folding jobs. They can usually start well with wash clothes and other items that just take a few simple folds to complete.

Kids at five, six, and seven can help set the table before a meal and can help clean up when everyone is done eating. They are not too young to learn to clean off their own plate and rinse things off. You may not want them to put things in the dishwasher just yet, but if you think they can handle it, that is something they can do as well. Children of this age can also sweep some floors for jobs for kids, but you may have to watch them carefully and you may have to redo it when they are not looking.

As they age past seven and eight, you can add some more jobs for kids to what you want or expect them to do. They can do a better job with sweeping, and can even learn to mop. Give them small areas so they can be satisfied with a good well done. They can do more with the laundry, and they can also learn to dust some areas of the house. At this age, they can learn some simple cooking skills, but they are still too young to cook on their own. See how they handle what you give them and ideas for new things for them to try will come to you as you see them grow.

Jobs for kids are going to be fun for them, but not forever. Soon enough they are going to be grunting and groaning about doing chores and telling you that they need to get an allowance. Remind them that you do these things without an allowance all the time and they can do the same for the good of the family. However, they can earn an allowance by doing more than you require from them. What those things are can be up to you. Chores won’t be fun forever, but they certainly help you out and give them good values for the future.

Barney was created in 1987 by Sheryl Leach of Dallas, Texas, USA. She came up with the idea for the program while considering TV shows that she felt would be educational and appeal to her son. Leach then brought together a team who created a series of home videos, Barney and the Backyard Gang, which also starred actress Sandy Duncan in the first 3 videos. Later, Barney was joined by the characters Baby Bop, BJ, and Riff.

Although the original videos were a modest regional success, Barney only became a major success when the character and format were revamped for series television and picked up by the Public Broadcasting Service, debuting as “Barney & Friends” in 1992. The series was produced by Lyrick Studios (bought by HIT Entertainment) and Connecticut Public Television. For several years, the show was taped at the ColorDynamics Studios facility at Greenville Avenue & Bethany Drive in Allen, after which it moved to The Studios at Las Colinas, Texas. Currently, the series is produced in a northern suburb of Dallas. The TV series and videos are currently distributed by HIT Entertainment.

Barney & Friends is now shown in other countries where it is translated if necessary. One such example is the Spanish language version produced in Mexico which is called Barney y Sus Amigos, (Spanish translation of “Barney & his Friends.”) Another example is the Hebrew production produced in 1997 in Israel, which redoes the Season 1 episodes of the American show instead of dubbing the show. The only way you can see this version now is by getting the DVDs by Clasikaletet.

As you may know, Bratz are the most popular dolls in North America and the UK – even more popular than Barbie! Bratz have even had nine of their own movies, the first one entitled Bratz: Starrin & Stylin’, and since then, they have had five music album releases, CD towers, boomboxes, their own animated show on DVD, and 2005’s #1 girl-targeted videogame published by THQ – along with twelve other console and PC games. Flash game site owners know this, and have catered to the publics needs by allowing you to play Bratz games for free on their websites.

A little about the dolls:

Bratz dolls are about ten inches tall, and are very similar artistically to a popular Japanese animation technique called “chibi”, seen in anime and manga. In this artistic form, you will see disproportionately large heads and eyes, to exaggerate facial expression. Generally, you will also see a small nose, and a small torso. The only thing that differentiates the Bratz style from the chibi style, is the full lips – which is a large step in the opposite direction from animes & mangas almost invisible lip design.

Carter Bryant, a toy designer, created the Bratz dolls and showed his designs to Isaac Larian, the CEO of MGA (Micro-Games America Entertainment) in 2000. And it wasn’t so much Mr. Larian who gave the O.K. on these dolls, as it was his daugher, Jasmin, who he found was enthralled by the designs – and just by chance had been visiting the office that day!

Webkinz is the really big thing right now. Kids aged 4 and up loves them, but why? The plush pet is like most other plush pets but the original part is that it comes with a code that gives you access to Webkinz World. At Webkinz World you can adopt a virtual version of your plush pet and once you have adopted it you get to take care of it including feeding it, giving it a nice bed and so on.

This part is original. It gives your children a sense of responsibility, because if they don’t take care of it it will get sick and unhappy.

In Webkinz World your child will interact with other children, playing games and so on. Another nice feature is that the Webkinz World isn’t static, it’s a dynamic environment and new things are added almost daily. Your child will play educational games in this world and they are rewarded with Kinzcash – and the more Kinzcash you have the more you can spoil your webkinz, buying outfits, accessories and so on. The games are educational, learning children how to read, do math and so on.

The Webkinz World is monitored by Ganz co. and is a safe haven for your child, nothing abusive or offensive like the rest of the web.

Webkinz have also become the collectors dream. The first webkinz released are now sold out and they are replaced by new ones. Retired webkinz are very rare and the first edition of webkinz have been sold for over $1000 at eBay. Ebay is a great place to buy webkinz but be sure to get a valid secret code with your purchase, ask the seller before buying.

If you are interested in looking at webkinz or just wanting to find a place where to buy webkinz for sale, you could follow the link below.

One of the best ways to educate your child is to provide him with activities that would allow him to learn new things on his own. It has been proven that children remember lessons better if they undergo educational activities, as opposed to just being spoon-fed the information. Given this, there is a need for parents like you to provide your child with mental activities that would enable him to learn new things in a way that he would remember. In addition to this, the activities you should expose him to should also pique his interest, because providing him with activities he considers dull would not be effective in making your child learn. One of the best activities for your child is solving colorful jigsaw puzzles, which can stimulate his brain and his other senses as well.

Advantages

Letting your child solve jigsaw puzzles serves a lot of purposes, which can be very advantageous to your child. One of these is that solving puzzles can stimulate several aspects of your child’s thinking process. Apart from being able to see what objects should look like, he is also being made aware of how objects should be oriented. In addition to this, simple puzzles, especially for very young children, would help them recognize that it is important for a puzzle piece to fit well in the hole in order to complete the picture.

Another advantage is that, through the process of trial and error, a child can practice his memory, as he would try to avoid doing the same mistake over and over again. Lastly, puzzles can also provide the opportunity for other types of learning, such as reading. Learning that a certain piece only fits one way is a pre-reading skill. Fortunately, puzzles that are designed for children are readily available, especially in toy stores.

It has been proven that children learn better if they undergo an activity that aims to teach a lesson instead of just being told about it. Given this, parents need to provide the appropriate types of activities that would foster more learning for their children. One very good example is to let their children solve jigsaw puzzles. This is because jigsaw puzzles can help develop the reasoning, deduction, spatial awareness, matching, sorting, and language skills they would find useful as they grow.

If you’re relatively young, Lego is this elaborate collection of toys that you could make just about anything from. The kits that are available today are just mind boggling. But it wasn’t always like that. There was a time when Lego didn’t have sets. They were just a bunch of blocks that you put together any way you liked. As a matter of fact, Lego goes a lot farther back than most people realize.

Even though Lego technically came into being in 1916, the first Lego toys were not made until 1932. Their first toys were cars, trucks and piggy banks. They were nothing like what we’re used to today. The actual Lego name wasn’t official until 1934. It came from a Danish phrase that meant “play well”. The founder of Lego, Kirk Christiansen, was known as a very kind hearted man who wanted to make toys that poorer children could afford. This was the main reason that he even went into the business.

The first Lego building brick toys that we’re familiar with today weren’t made until 1947. One of the first of these toys was a truck that you could put together and then take apart to put back together again. The bricks snapped together. The blocks were made out of cellulose acetate as opposed to the common wooden bricks that most other toys were made from. In 1953 these bricks were given the official name “Lego Bricks”.

In the 1950s the bricks were improved upon because the ability of the blocks to lock together was limited. Hollow tubes were added to the underside of the bricks to help them lock together a little better. This also added some much needed support to these bricks. Finally, in 1958, Christiansen died. The company almost died with him. But his partner decided to go on and continue to run the company. Otherwise this may have been the end of Lego.

In the 1960s we were given the first Lego wheels that could be added to the cars and trucks. Before these wheels were created the car and truck tires were blocks, just like the rest of the vehicle. During that time, Lego started to make toys that were targeted to preschoolers. This line went over very well with the kids. Finally in 1963, the blocks were made out of ABS plastic and are still made from this plastic even today. Then in 1964, for the very first time, instruction manuals were provided for their toys.

In 1969 an offshoot of Lego, the Duplo system, can to be. These blocks were much bigger than the Lego blocks, which made them safer for young children, the main reason they were made in the first place. However, even though the Duplo system was made for small kids, the two systems are compatible with each other and can be mixed together.

Throughout the years, many people have enjoyed the pastime of creating miniature dollhouses and carefully collecting objects to display within them. With the increasing availability of miniature dollhouse kits and handcrafted dollhouse furniture – everything from miniature pianos to miniature rosewood furniture – more people are taking up this hobby and turning it into their passion.

Why Miniature Dollhouses?
There are many enchanting aspects of collecting miniature dollhouses. The primary advantage is that you can start small and grow your miniature dollhouse collection over time. Another advantage is that your miniature dollhouse collection can be as expensive or as inexpensive as is practical for you. Although many people spend thousands and thousands of dollars on rare dollhouse miniatures, there’s no real need to. You can get just as much enjoyment out of your less expensive collection.

Miniature Dollhouse Kits
Although you can buy a miniature dollhouse readymade, it’s much more of an adventure to build your own with a miniature dollhouse kits. Miniature dollhouse kits come in a variety of styles, from Victorian dollhouses and Adirondack cabins to country churches and general stores. Often, they come with add-on porches, dormers, and stairways in a variety of styles. When considering the kits on the market, look for wooden dollhouses that are made with cabinet grade plywood for exterior walls. Superior construction will ensure that your miniature dollhouse will be one that you can pass down for generations to come.

Before looking at miniature dollhouse kits, think about where you will ultimately display the dollhouse. Make sure that the dollhouse you choose will fit in the space you have and that, if you will be moving in the near future, it is of a scale that is moveable. Dollhouse miniatures come in a variety of scales, so decide ahead of time what scale you’d like.

Hands Off?
There are many in the miniature dollhouse collectors’ community who insist that miniature dollhouses are for adults only. Yet there are others who fondly recall the privilege and pleasure of playing with their mother’s or grandmother’s miniature dollhouse. While miniature dollhouses should be definitely off-limits for very small children – dollhouse miniatures can be a health hazard if swallowed – part of the enchantment of collecting is sharing the enjoyment with others. If you need to protect your miniature dollhouse from little hands, either buy a miniature dollhouse kit that closes completely or install a Plexiglas sheet to seal the back of the dollhouse.

Not every kid out there finds the skateboard or roller blades to be the most fun for them to ride. Although the popularity of the two sports are growing tremendously and are extremely fun within their own right, this article is about the other types of extremely fun boards out there. The extreme sport era is here and it is here to stay, so many other toys are being created to fulfill the urge to live extreme. First let us talk about the ever popular kick scooter. Scooter riding used to be for the kid who could not skate. Now you can check out kids doing 720’s and back flips on scooters at YouTube. The extreme has taken over kick scooters. Even if you cannot do a flip on the scooter they are being built today to be able to do some insane freestyle tricks as well as ride them on ramps. You cannot drive by a local skate park anymore without seeing some kid riding a kick scooter. Not only riding one but a lot of the time they are showing off just like the best skaters are. A kick scooter is a blast to ride and unlike some of the other popular boards you can pretty much open up a scooter jump on and ride. They are very easy to learn but just like anything they take a lot of time and practice to master.

Another hot board on the market right now is the caster board. The two most popular caster boards are the Ripstik and the Wave Board. These boards are designed so that the rider’s feet never have to touch the ground. There are only two wheels and the boards completely twist and bend, purposely. Not only that but you can ride these boards at very fast speeds as well as stay balanced going slower then any board or scooter out there. You can make very tight and deliberate turns with the caster board. Riding down a street with people walking, you can just as easily weave through the people on your caster board as you can walk, the balance is amazing. Not only for just riding on the street but on these boards you can ride ramps, and bust out some incredible skateboard style tricks. One draw back is that you can only ride the board in one direction, but that does not stop you from doing kick flips, manuals, ollies, acid drops, hang nines, and tons more awesome tricks. I one time saw someone balance on a 137 foot curb and ride the whole thing. It was awesome. These boards are amazingly versatile, and you will find that you want to bring them wherever you go. It becomes easier to ride a caster board then walk after a while.

These are just a few of the new extreme styles of riding out there for young people. There are always new and inventive toys to look out for. Extremely fun and exciting to ride boards that you may have never tried are right around the corner. Give them a shot because you will probably find that you love them.
