Bed Bugs are a growing problem today. These sneaky pests find ways to infest our homes through the smallest cracks between units, in packages or suitcases and even on clothing.

And anyone who lives in apartments, condos, dorms or anywhere else that large numbers of people coexist next to each other are potential targets for these blood sucking pests.

It is also a probability that if your building has a bed bug infestation problem that there are going to be a few people that ignore or are uncooperative with extermination efforts.

These people may be uncooperative because:

    * The bugs don’t bother them.
* They are embarrassed by the problem.
* They are too lazy to do what is needed.
* They are physically unable to complete the required steps.
* They are afraid or against the use of chemical pesticides.

Whatever the reason, the people who won’t or can’t cooperate with the extermination process unwittingly allow their homes to become a safe haven for the BedBugs.

There is an easy and inexpensive way of adding class to any bedroom – just add a canopy bed! Canopy beds may seem difficult to make or expensive to buy, but if you know how to do some improvisation and look for the best deals, you can have your very own in no time at all.

Who says you have to spend thousands of dollars to experience the luxury of a canopy? Just install curtain rods on each end of the bed, hang soft fabrics, and you already have a canopy effect. If you want a makeshift canopy that lasts longer, you can secure a short rod to the ceiling (perpendicular to the head of the bed on both sides). Hang long fabric panels (they should preferably reach the floor), and just tie the fabric back with a nice ribbon or a specially made drapery tieback.

You can also create your own crown canopy by simply cutting a half-circle of three-quarters of an inch of plywood (this is just the right thickness – it’s still easily installable and yet sturdy enough). Attach fabric panels around the outer edge of the plywood. You can then install the crown canopy by either attaching it directly onto the ceiling or securing it to the walls using L-brackets.

Don’t have time to do all this handiwork? There’s an even easier version of a canopy bed – and you only need hooks and fabrics to do it. Simply attach a wooden or metal ring to the ceiling above the bed’s center. Then drape long fabric panels through it, and pull both ends down to the floor on both sides of the bed. Make sure you attach the ring firmly so that it can hold the weight of fabric, though – you don’t want everything falling on you while you sleep.

There are other ways to create a canopy bed effect without actually purchasing a canopy bed. Let your imagination guide you and you will never go wrong!

A bedroom should serve as a peaceful, restful place with warm decor that can be varied depending upon the season. Comfort in a bedroom is a key factor for most people, while others prefer simplicity and functionality as important features.

If the room is to be used only for sleeping, obviously a bed and storage space for clothes are needed. It doesn’t have to be particularly large. If the room is also to relax and work in, a larger space is needed. If your bedroom space is small, a partition can make the room seem larger and give you room for dressing.

An ideal bedroom should be large enough to contain a pair of comfortable chairs or a small sofa. There should be at least one nightstand for books and other incidentals, bookcase and a desk.

A guest bedroom ideally should be both comfortable and welcoming. If there is space, include a roomy dressing table that can also serve as a desk; add a comfortable chair and provide good lighting.

Infants and young children should have soundproofed bedrooms with dirt resistant flooring. Adolescents and teens should be given the opportunity to help design their bedroom. It should include a bed, worktable, dressing table, chair, book shelves, entertainment center and enough storage for all of their “stuff.” If there is extra space, an extra bed is useful for sleepovers with their friends.

Bedrooms are often square or rectangular in shape. This is considered the most economical design for this room. Some houses have bedroom features like wide windows with platform sitting areas that can be used for storage or as a window seat. If a room has a high ceiling, long windows can create an airy feel.

A bedroom in a cottage does have a special charm, but it becomes difficult to fit furniture into rooms because of size and low roofs.

Ultimately, a bedroom should be designed keeping in mind the comfort and personal requirements of its owner.

You come home after a long day’s work and flop in your bed for a little R n R. Sounds like heaven, right? However, as you fall into your bed you look to your left and something catches your eye. You realized that your dresser just doesn’t match up with the nightstand that you picked up over the weekend. And now going through your wallet, hoping you still have your receipt to make a return or exchange.

So now you’re thinking what can be done about it. Then like a bolt of lightning it hits you – why not get a bedroom set? Bedroom sets are the perfect way to decorate your room and provide a nice consistent look. No distractions when you come from work anymore.

A bedroom set may include a number of different pieces such as the Bed, Headboard, Dressers, Nightstands, and Armoires. Most furniture manufacturers will specifically design collections so customers can purchase whatever they need for their home and deliver a clean, consistent appearance.

The consistency of your decor aside, purchasing a bedroom set also has other benefits such as saving time, energy, and money. Imagine if you were shopping for bedroom furniture and could not, for the life of you, find a nightstand and bed that matches. Perhaps you would have to drive all over town, going from store to store looking for a nightstand to go with that bed, or a dresser to go with that armoire, etc. etc. Having a bedroom set available allows you to make one simple purchase, and get all the pieces you want without having to drive from store to store.

Purchasing a bedroom set also saves you money as well. Typically, individual pieces of furniture are sold for more than a set due to costs of shipping one product at a time, as oppose to the entire set in one trip. Many retailers and furniture manufacturers also provide you, the consumer, with discounts if you purchase an entire bedroom set at once as well.

So now you’ve decided that you indeed want to replace that dresser and nightstand with a bedroom set. Before you go out to your favorite furniture or online store, keep in mind the amount of room you will have. Remember that a bedroom set may include many pieces, so take measurements, know what you want, and be prepared to leave extra space for impulse buys.

Now you come home from yet another long day’s work. You flop into your bed for little bit of R n R, and look to your left. You’re left with nothing but a smile because that dresser finally matches that nightstand. And now you have a new armoire too.

Platform beds can be extremely simple. The extremely simple platform beds have no headboard or footboard, and certainly no canopy. They incorporate slats, which, in effect, replace the need for a box spring, since, because they are sturdy yet somehow slightly flexible, support the single mattress on top. The result is that you get a good night’s sleep, are very comfortable, and yet don’t end up with back pains or numb muscles in the morning.

It’s ever better for your back than sleeping on the floor. And now, with the rapid proliferation of memory foam, your platform bed can be even more comfortable and healthy. Memory foam is a gel-like polymer that accepts your shapes and bones, but supports it fully. (It was first used in hospitals, and is now a popular mattress and pillow material.)

Platform bed plans can be more complex too; you can add headboards, footboards, canopies, even extra flourishes and storage units. You can build the storage units as one with the bed frame, or you can create rolling drawers supported by castors, so that the drawers are modifiable and easily maneuverable throughout your bedroom.

Loft beds are great space savers. They allow more efficient utilization of the available household space. Loft beds provide the ideal solution for children of all ages.

The popular options with small children are, loft beds with study desks or a chest for storing clothes, books or toys. Older children may prefer to use their bedroom to study or spend time with their friends. In this case, a loft bed with a sofa or study desk underneath the bed would be the ideal combination. Space utilization, in addition to being more functional, also creates a nice, quiet and cozy atmosphere in the children?s bedroom. When there is more than one child in the family, a loft bed with an additional bed, is a logical solution to make maximum use of all the space available in the room. This also makes more space available on the floor for play and toys.

There are many agencies that sell children?s loft beds along with a host of related and complementary accessories. It is also possible to find a large variety of loft beds on the Net. The local suppliers offer to deliver the loft bed components and also arrange to assemble the bed and accessories at the purchaser?s residence.

Things may be slightly more complicated if the loft bed is purchased through the Internet, from online suppliers. It is wise to double-check whether the necessary space is available in the children?s room to fit the loft bed assembly comfortably. Care should also be taken to check that access is available to move the loft bed to the planned location. The reason is that it is difficult to return or replace goods bought on the Net once the payment is made. It is also better to order the goods online from a reputed supplier.

Beds are often made up of a particular variety of iron called “wrought iron”. It has a low corrosion rate and can be twisted easily. Wrought iron beds are more expensive than normal iron beds. Until the first half of the last century these beds were very popular among the rich and the famous.

That is why one finds that a number of antique beds are made of wrought iron. Wrought iron beds are also used for decorative purposes. However, they are not merely a piece of decoration, but can be used in day to day life. They can be kept in a bedroom and used for sleeping as any other bed is used. In fact, they are much stronger than normal iron beds.

Ugly patches, due to corrosion, occur on many other types of iron beds after a few years of use, but these don’t happen with wrought iron beds. There are several wrought iron beds which were manufactured centuries ago and still look elegant and fresh. Wrought iron beds can be very stylish. One can buy readymade wrought iron beds or can get them custom-made. There are several companies which deal exclusively in wrought iron beds. It is better to buy from an exclusive dealer rather than a generalized one.

One should consider the quality of iron when purchasing a wrought iron bed. It may not be easy for a normal person to differentiate between wrought iron beds and other types of iron beds. So it is better to be careful while purchasing, especially if you are buying online. The prices of wrought iron beds vary according to the size, weight and style. Choose the one which suits your taste as well as your budget.

Large dogs and extra large dogs require more thought and planning when owners purchase a permanent dog bed. Even though large dogs can be just as lovable as their smaller canine counterparts, they require a more complex sleeping situation than small dogs. It’s obvious that a large dog requires a large dog bed, and that an extra large dog requires an extra large dog bed. This goes without saying. But how big? And what kind of bed is best?

In this instance the answer is a function of not only the size but the breed of dog. You must measure the dog when he is fully grown, or at least have an accurate idea of what his size will be when he is fully grown. Just as with smaller dogs, you have to take into account your dog’s sleeping style – for example, whether he sleeps curled up in a ball or stretched out across the bed. All of these factors will help define your choice of large dog bed for your canine pal.

Placement is more of an issue with larger dogs than smaller ones. No matter how sweet and cuddly your large dog is, very few people want to share a bed with a Great Dane. And the size of the dog definitely limits the spaces available to him for sleeping. You can’t squeeze a Great Dane comfortably into a small bathroom and expect him to stay there overnight.

Large dogs tend to have a strong protective instinct, and so it is quite often the case that they sleep near the front or back doors. If your living room or family room happens to be the nearest space to one of those doors, a large bed that resembles actual furniture serves a dual purpose. First, large dog beds and extra large dog beds that mimic real furniture will keep your oversize pet off of the real furniture without making him feel deprived. And secondly, furniture type beds are actually more comfortable than a more standard round dog bed. They have pillows to rest heads and paws on and they are treated with flea and tick resistant powders to keep your dog free from those bothersome pests while he sleeps. In addition, they are sometimes filled with memory foam and gel products that conform to the musculature of the animal, which helps keep him comfortable while he sleeps.

After a hard day filled with numerous and stressful activities, most people will opt to go directly to bed. Some will take a quick nap or simply sleep their tension away. Taking the time to relax in bed is enough to rejuvenate a person and allow him to continue his daily routine with renewed energy.

It is no surprise that the bed is one of the most functional furniture in the house. There are different types of beds to suit a person’s preferences. One type of bed is the twin bunk bed.

What is a twin bunk bed?

A twin bunk bed is just like any ordinary bunk bed, made up of two beds positioned one top of the other. To reach the top bed, the person will have to use a ladder mounted on the bed frame itself. A bunk bed is often used to maximize a limited floor area. Instead of having only one person sleep on a certain floor area, two people can share the same space. This is why a bunk bed can save so much space.

What makes the twin bunk bed so special is that each bed mounted on the bed frame can actually be separated to create two twin beds, thus its name.

If you try searching the Internet for twin bunk beds, you will be surprised to see just how many different variations of this kind of furniture are available. Twin bunk beds come in different colors and sizes. The materials used for the beds also vary. Though the most commonly used material for such furniture is wood, a lot of companies have come out with alternatives using metal or aluminum.

If you can’t wait to own a twin bunk bed, you could try building one for yourself. Or you could order from one of many furniture companies online. Such companies even offer you customized furniture, based on your personal specifications and design requirements.

Air beds vary in style, quality and durability. Before buying this type of bed, you might want to consider the following points.

An air bed is an inflatable and plastic mattress. The popularity of these mattresses is due to the ease of its use and fast set-up and inflation time. These beds can also be transported easily and are perfect when you are on out of town trips or have a guest staying in your house. Most beds are meant for temporary use, not for prolonged periods of time.

The first consideration in buying air beds is quality. You should buy brands that will not break easily under pressure and are not susceptible to holes. As much as possible, do not focus only on the price since cheaper air beds are also made of less sturdy materials.

Second, you should decide on the size of the mattress you want. Air beds are available mostly in twin size and full size. You might also purchase them in king and queen sizes depending on your preference. Remember that whatever size you choose, you should be able to carry it to the location and have enough room when it opens up.

Lastly, you should know how to inflate the air bed. Some brands come with free handy pumps. Others have to be inflated manually. Large beds require a lot of air to ensure maximum comfort, and that means more time and effort on your part.

Some inexpensive models require the buyer to blow into the air bed. It would be best if the model you buy comes with a free manual or electric pump for easy inflation. A manual pump appears with a set of bellows that is loaded with a spring. The owner has to step repeatedly on the spring to inflate the bellows and, in turn, the air bed.

Before purchasing an air bed, keep these guidelines in mind to save you time, money and effort.
